NEW FACES AMONG THE ALLEYS

The contest to test your skills as a game designer and measure your imagination. Create a new warband for the alleys of the damned city. Get inspired by Nicola Giorgi's Coven of Witches warband, available to the whole community!

Dear Reader,

when a new campaign begins or the next narrative event approaches, do you also find yourself staring at your shelf, flipping through rulebooks, compulsively scrolling through files on your computer in search of a warband that fully captures your vision of a ragtag group of desperate souls and the damned, seeking glory or redemption in the alleyways of Mordheim?

Do you also alternate this search between flights of fancy full of ifs and buts, gazing at those identity-less miniatures that represent something that still doesn't exist within the pages of any rulebook?

We know, there are hundreds of warbands out there — at least fifty of them have been translated into our language and made available to the community. And yet there's always that remote possibility that none of them perfectly fits the creativity bubbling beneath the surface of your imagination, or perhaps you're simply a rules-obsessed madman who wants to put their Game Designer skills to the test.

THIS CONTEST IS FOR YOU!

We have decided to open a communication channel with our readers through a Warband design contest that can showcase and give ample space to the most brilliant, inspired, or compelling ideas that reach our editorial team.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

The rules are simple.

You will need to create and lay out your warband using the classic Mordheim format, which includes:

  • Background
  • Warrior selection
  • Starting experience
  • Advancement table
  • Equipment list
  • Special skills, rules, and items
  • Statistics and limitations for heroes and troops
  • Any optional rules

Once everything is ready, head to the association's contest page, fill in the form and upload all your documents!

Participation in the contest is reserved for members with an active membership card, of any type.

But it doesn't end there! Your warband should be accompanied by a short article in which you describe how the idea came to life, your sources of inspiration, the balancing and playtesting processes that shaped its final form. Finally, a suggested thematic roster to give readers an idea of how to best interpret the proposed rules.

PRIZE UP FOR GRABS

Glory won't be the only thing the winner of this contest gets to savour.

In addition to the well-deserved praise and publication of the winning warband across our channels and pages, the winner will receive an exclusive miniature inspired by their own warband!

An exclusive miniature will be created, inspired by a hero, beast, or troop from the winning warband.

The same miniature will also be used as the special miniature included with the 2027-28 collector membership cards.

A unique production in an extremely limited run.

Who will sculpt it? We'll tell you later — in the meantime, let yourselves be inspired by...

THE WITCH COVEN

BY Nicola Giorgi

And now, to give you an idea of what we expect from our Community, we present below the Warband designed by Nicola Giorgi of the group Apuanheim di Massa, who presents his Witch Coven.

Exodus 22:18

Preface: the Witch Coven.

Reconstructing the story in my head, I believe the idea for this warband came to life when I stumbled upon this image, which I still use as a wallpaper years later.

Animism, primordialism, powerful and unsettling femininity. This is where a search for this kind of aesthetic began, spanning many places — at least within the gaming world — drawing from various interpretations such as The Witcher, the Rashemen of D&D, the blood magic of Dragon Age, Goya's Sabbaths, the Blair Witch, tarot cards, the Malleus Maleficarum, and the Ars Goetia…

Finally, the whole thing took shape as a playable warband after a demo run by the amiable Paolo Boracchi for his game Altar of the Dead Gods, which features a Witch warband of its own (I'll take the opportunity to recommend you also follow his new project Ømen Tide). Having recently started playing Mordheim — ironically with a witch hunter warband — the leap was a short one.
