What is Mordheim today, years after its disappearance?
In 1999, Games Workshop launched Mordheim, a three-dimensional wargame set in the world of Warhammer Fantasy.
But what is Mordheim today in 2025?
Twenty-five years after its release and over twenty years since the end of official production, Mordheim not only survives, but continues to thrive thanks to a passionate and resilient community, which in 2025 celebrates its 25th anniversary with the first world tournament: the Mordheim World Tournament 2025 (#MWT25), scheduled for September 6th and 7th at the stunning castle of Casale Monferrato, Italy.

A community that never gives up
Despite Games Workshop closing the Specialist Games line in 2015, the Mordheim player base has continued to grow, albeit slowly. Forums, Facebook groups and sites such as Mordheimer.net and Broheim.net offer resources, updated rules and new scenarios, keeping interest in the game alive.
The first world tournament: #MWT25
The pinnacle of this renaissance is represented by the first Mordheim world tournament, the Mordheim World Tournament 2025 (#MWT25), which will be held on September 6th and 7th, 2025 at the castle of Casale Monferrato, in Italy. The event will see the participation of 100 players from all over the world, ready to compete among the ruins of the City of the Damned.
Other competitions created by the Mordheim community
The Golden Gotthard is the most coveted award in the community for the painting of single miniatures and dioramas with a "damned city" theme, which takes place at the Play festival of games in the War Pit section.
The Battle of Table, on the other hand, is the competition for gaming table craftsmen, who strive to faithfully reproduce the districts of the damned city.
The Beating Heart: the Campaign System and the Third Player
There are two factors that make Mordheim truly special; the first is the campaign system. Each player leads a warband composed of heroes and henchmen, who gain experience, acquire new skills and improve their equipment after each game.
The second is the Third Player, namely the gaming table and the scenery. In addition to making battles far more atmospheric, the scenery is a fundamental part of the game.
